Why Choose Chilliwack BC

What advantages are there to flying out of Chilliwack BC?

Chilliwack Airport (CYCW) is an excellent facility for flight training. The Chilliwack Airport is small, relaxed, friendly, easily accessible, yet in close proximity to both large, international airports, small bush landing strips, coastal areas, the Fraser valley and the mountains. Chilliwack boasts a 4000' paved runway, with lighting for night flying, and grass landing strips adjacent to the paved strip.
The Chilliwack airport is located about 1 hours drive East of Vancouver adjacent to Highway 1. Driving in from the west is easy. Simply follow Highway 1 to Chilliwack exit on Yale road and turn left heading towards downtown. Next, turn right on Airport road (The second set of lights). The airport is on the right just past Young road.

For students just beginning their training, there is reduced stress learning at Chilliwack. since there is no control tower and the air traffic is neither crowded nor hectic. Students have a chance to learn in a relaxed atmosphere, hone important skills at their own pace, and become confident about their abilities in a supportive, positive environment. Students will not waste precious training time or money waiting at the hold line for clearance to begin a flight. The practice area, where much of the work of flight training is carried out, is a five-minute flight from the airport.

Once students are ready to handle work with a control tower and more traffic, Abbotsford International Airport is only a fifteen-minute flight away. There, students will experience a busy airport and communicate with a control tower while still being very close to home! On the other side of the coin, Chilliwack is only minutes away from several small grass and gravel airstrips, excellent for bush flying training. Mountain areas are easily accessible and training for this challenging aspect of flight is available with our experienced, professional flight instructors..
